STAYING IN HOTELS OR HOSTELS

Hotels are very expensive in NYC. Hotel chains and hotels in better neighborhoods are generally better, nicer, cleaner hotels. Read the reviews online. As an alternative, I suggest hostels (not to be confused with brothels!). Hostels are NO FRILLS. They are often rented by backpackers or the frugal traveler. The basic difference between a hostel and a hotel is that a hostel tends to only have one bathroom per floor (you may have a sink in your room) but to shower and tinkle you've got to go to the end of the hall. Some have private baths that are shared, others offer communal baths. I suggest looking at our list of resources in HOUSING & LODGING and see what looks clean and convenient and within your budget. Make sure when researching you read the reviews of prior guests. Also, it is a good idea to check The Better Business Bureau, as they have a wealth of information compiled on all types of businesses.
